After establishing Ekya Schools in 2011, we asked ourselves, now that we have a school, what would it take to make it an excellent one. How do we ensure that teachers inspire the love of learning, that children feel a sense of joy and are happy to come to school, that our assessments are not claustrophobic but a window of opportunity to know what our children were thinking and learning. It’s not easy to shift the narrow view of learning, to break it open, and imagine. Imagine a world of possibilities for children, teachers and leaders. Imagine a new way of doing things. Imagine a world beyond boundaries. This is a big, sometimes terrifying vision. We could not do it alone. We needed to bring our teachers, and leaders along with us for this journey and so we planted the seeds for continuous learning. 

We formalised our efforts to provide learning and professional development opportunities in 2016 and Ekya Professional Development Institute was born. We envisioned a training institute for not just our teachers but all teachers across India.  We want educators and leaders to think about what excellence looks like, to don on the hat of the learner before that of a teacher. We want them to be able to capture children’s hearts, foster meaningful relationships, and shape their classrooms into a dynamic joyful learning space.  Since 2016, we have worked with and trained over 2500+ educators and leaders.  We have continued to challenge the notion of what education and learning should look like, how classrooms should be designed, how we set a strong culture, what role the environment plays, and how schools should function. 

We believe in the power of a teacher and the change they can make. We believe that effective school leadership is fundamental to providing excellence in education. We believe when you are in service of children, we need to go back to the blackboard, again and again. We are committed to this journey, because we know this is important work. And we are continuously learning.
